Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this law does:

This Act takes £15 million from Australia’s main government bank account (the Consolidated Revenue Fund) and puts it into a special protected account called the Invalid and Old-age Pensions Fund. This money is specifically earmarked to pay pensions to elderly Australians and people with disabilities who are unable to work.

Who it affects:

Pensioners: People receiving invalid (disability) or old-age pensions in 1939
The Treasury: Authorises the release of funds from consolidated revenue

Why it matters: This is a supply Act — without it, the government cannot legally spend money on pensions. It ensures pension payments continue by formally setting aside funds for the year. The law places the money in a Trust Account (a separate, protected government bank account established under the Audit Act) rather than mixing it with general government revenue, ensuring the funds are only used for pension payments.
