#### 2 Commencement 2 Commencement > > (1) Sections 1 and 2 shall commence on the date of assent to this Act. > > > (2) Subject to this section, this Act shall commence on such day as may be appointed by the Governor and notified by proclamation published in the Gazette. > > > (3) Section 23 shall commence on such day, being a day occurring after the day appointed and notified under subsection (2), as may be appointed by the Governor and notified by proclamation published in the Gazette. > > > (4) Section 81 and Schedule 1 shall commence— > > > > > (a) on the day appointed and notified under subsection (2), or > > > > > (b) on the day fixed by proclamation for the purposes of section 2 (2) of the [Australian Citizenship Amendment Act 1984](http://www.legislation.gov.au/) of the Commonwealth, > > > > whichever is the later.
