Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act gives the Australian Government formal permission to sign an international agreement extending Australia's participation in the International Wheat Agreement for another year.

What it does

In 1962, Australia joined the International Wheat Agreement, which coordinates global wheat trade and helps stabilize prices.
In February 1965, member countries created a Protocol (a formal add-on agreement) to extend this arrangement for one more year.
This Act provides Parliament's official approval for Australia to sign and accept that extension.

Who it affects Australian wheat farmers, exporters, and traders who benefit from the stable trade rules and market access provided by the International Wheat Agreement.

Why it matters Without this parliamentary approval, Australia could not legally join the extension, potentially disrupting wheat export arrangements and Australia's position in international grain markets.
