South Metropolitan TAFE has been approved as a VET provider under the Higher Education Support Act 2003, enabling the institution to access the government vocational loan scheme. This affects the TAFE and students in eligible vocational courses by allowing eligible students to defer tuition costs through VET FEE-HELP/VET Student Loans, repaid later via an income‑contingent tax system.
