What this does

This declaration by the Minister for Education adds nine specific religious colleges and theological schools to the official list of approved higher education institutions under the Higher Education Funding Act 1988.

Who is affected

The following institutions become eligible for Commonwealth higher education funding:

Australian College of Theology Council Incorporated
Australian Lutheran College
Christian Heritage College
Harvest Bible College Inc
Moore Theological College Council
Perth Bible College
Tabor College Incorporated (trading as Tabor Adelaide)
Tabor College (NSW) Incorporated
Wesley Institute

Why it matters

Being added to Table B of the Act means these institutions can now receive public funding to support their educational operations, and their students may access Commonwealth financial assistance (such as student income support or tuition subsidies). This brings these theological and bible colleges into the federal higher education funding system.
