2.1.1 Restriction on items—ultrasound services

Items in this Division (except items 55600 and 55603) apply to an ultrasound service only if the diagnostic imaging procedure used in rendering the service is performed: (a) by a medical practitioner; or (b) on behalf of a medical practitioner by a person whose name is entered on the Register of Sonographers kept by the Chief Executive Medicare.

Note: Maintaining a register of sonographers is a function of the Chief Executive Medicare under section 32 of the Human Services (Medicare) Regulations 2017.
