Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

These regulations set the rate for a mandatory research levy imposed on grain legumes (such as beans, peas, and lentils) produced and sold in Australia.

What it does:

Fixes the levy at $1.00 per tonne of leviable grain legumes
Authorises the collection of funds for grain legumes research under the Grain Legumes Levy Act 1985

Who it affects:

Farmers, growers, and producers who sell grain legumes
The grains industry, which benefits from the pooled research funding

Why it matters: This levy ensures the grain legumes industry contributes directly to research and development efforts that improve crop yields, disease resistance, and farming practices. The flat rate per tonne keeps calculations simple for producers while generating funds for collective industry benefit.
