Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act authorises the Australian Government to pay $15.75 million from the national treasury (the Consolidated Revenue Fund) to complete the purchase of land in Glebe, Sydney.

In May 1974, the Government signed a contract to buy land from the Glebe Administration Board for a total price of $17.5 million. Because $1.75 million had already been paid before this law was enacted, this Act provides the legal authority to pay the remaining balance.

Why this matters: Appropriation Acts are the legal "bank transfer instructions" that allow the Government to spend money. Without this specific legislation, the Government could not legally complete the payment for these lands, even though the contract was already signed.
