Tasmania regulation
This Order, effective 15 November 2005, mechanically declares the whole of Tasmania to be a GMO‑free area (s4) and is to be read as a regulation under the Acts Interpretation Act 1931 (s3). It is administered by the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment. The declaration changes the legal landscape for anyone who grows, imports, releases or researches genetically modified organisms in Tasmania by shifting compliance obligations and costs onto those actors and placing administration and any implementation choices with the Department.
