57E Requirements as to taking samples or seizing things (1) An authorised officer may not, under this Division, take samples of a thing or seize a thing apparently in the possession of a person unless the authorised officer makes out or tenders to the person a written receipt for the sample taken or thing seized. (2) If the authorised officer is unable to ascertain the identity of the owner or custodian of the thing seized or sampled, the authorised officer must leave a receipt with, or post it to, the person apparently in charge of the thing seized. (3) If an authorised officer seizes a thing under this Division, the officer must take reasonable steps to return the thing to the person from whom it was seized if the reason for its seizure no longer exists.
