20F Critical habitat agreements (1) The Secretary must take all reasonable steps to enter into an agreement in respect of an area that is subject to a critical habitat determination. (2) For the purposes of subsection (1), the agreement must be— (a) a public authority management agreement; or (b) an agreement under section 69 of the **Conservation, Forests and Lands Act 1987**. (3) An agreement referred to in this section must specify measures to provide for the long-term conservation and protection of the critical habitat. (4) Subsection (1) does not apply if the Secretary considers that an alternative agreement is in place to provide for the long‑term conservation and protection of the critical habitat.
