What this does: This instrument sets the exact weight of Southern Bluefin Tuna that commercial fishers can catch per quota unit they hold for the 2023-2024 fishing season.
The number: Each "statutory fishing right" (essentially a quota unit) allows fishers to catch 1.30152 kilograms of live Southern Bluefin Tuna.
Who it affects: Commercial fishers in the Southern Bluefin Tuna Fishery who hold statutory fishing rights.
Why it matters: Fishing rights are traded and managed as abstract units, but catch limits are enforced by actual weight. This determination provides the conversion rate (called the "actual live weight value") so fishers know precisely how many kilograms of fish their quota represents. The rule applies from 1 December 2023 to 30 November 2024.

A term used in this instrument that is defined for the purposes of the Plan has the same meaning in this instrument as it has in that Plan.
Note: Terms defined in the Fisheries Management Act 1991 have the same meanings in this instrument.
6 Determination of the actual live weight value of a statutory fishing right
The actual live weight value of a statutory fishing right for the fishing season in the SBT Fishery that commences on 1 December 2023 and ends on 30 November 2024 is 1.30152 kilograms.
