Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This regulation sets the fees (levies) that commercial fishers must pay to operate in the Southern Shark Fishery.

What it does:

Charges $250 when a fisher is first allocated a "unit of fishing capacity" (essentially a permit or quota giving them the right to fish)
Charges another $250 when that fishing allocation is renewed

Key terms explained:

Unit of fishing capacity: A fishing right granted under the Southern Shark Fishery Management Plan (created in April 1988)
Levy: A type of tax or fee imposed by the government

Who it affects: Commercial fishing businesses holding permits in the Southern Shark Fishery (southern Australian waters).

Why it matters: This establishes the cost of obtaining and maintaining fishing rights in this specific fishery, directly impacting the operating costs for affected fishers and funding fisheries management.
