Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: These regulations set the fee (called a 'levy') that commercial fishers must pay to the government when they receive a new fishing licence or add a special permission (called an 'endorsement') to an existing licence.

Who it affects: Commercial fishers operating under Australia's Commonwealth fisheries laws (specifically those covered by the Fisheries Act 1952).

Key details:

The fee: $295 (set in 1987)
When it applies:
- When you get a new fishing licence (whether or not it includes special endorsements)
- When you add an endorsement to a licence you already hold

Why it matters: This is the paperwork that puts a dollar figure on the cost of obtaining permission to fish commercially in Commonwealth waters. It implements the Fisheries Levy Act 1984 by specifying exactly which licences attract the charge and how much must be paid.
