This law sets a $1,670 fee (called a 'levy') for specific commercial fishing licences in a remote Australian fishery.

Who it affects:

Commercial fishers operating in the North West Shelf Deep-Water Trawl Fishery
Specifically, boat owners who hold licences under the Fisheries Act 1952 with a special endorsement (permission added to their licence) allowing them to trawl in deep waters off Australia's north-west coast

What it does:

Charges exactly $1,670 for each licence endorsement that authorizes fishing in the area defined by Fisheries Notice No. 204
The money is collected as a tax (levy) under the Fisheries Levy Act 1984

Why it matters:

It establishes the cost for commercial operators to access this specific deep-water fishing zone north of Western Australia
The revenue goes to the Commonwealth government to help manage fisheries
