A tunnel net must have— a tunnel length of no more than 200m; and a tunnel entrance width of between 1.5m and 4m; and a mesh size of— for the tunnel—no more than 50mm; and for the part of the net within 400m adjacent to each side of the tunnel—at least 25mm; and for the rest of the net—at least 44mm. The tunnel of a tunnel net must— extend out to sea beyond low water for at least 30m in water at least 30cm deep; and be in place before the rest of the net is deployed. A bycatch reduction grid must be installed at the mouth of a tunnel net. In this section— bycatch reduction grid means a grid that— is constructed as a single solid unit without any hinged or collapsible components; and is constructed of rigid material; and has vertical bars, spaced no more than 200mm apart, extending from the top to the bottom of the net on which it is installed. sch 4 s 92 amd 2020 SL No. 236 s 164 (2) (sch.4-sec.92-ssec.1) A tunnel net must be no longer than 1,700m, excluding its tunnel length.
