The escape hole must be covered by a rectangular flap attached to the outside of the net. The flap must consist of 1 panel that— has a mesh size of no more than— for a net used to trawl for prawns—50mm; or for a net used to trawl for scallops—90mm; and is at least— 3,380mm wide; and 1,320mm long; and does not overlap the escape hole by more than 130mm on either side; and is not sewn down the outside edges more than 150mm past the trailing edge of the grid; and is attached, by the longer edge, to the net in front of the leading edge of the escape hole. Alternatively, the flap may consist of 2 equal-sized panels that— each have a mesh size of no more than— for a net used to trawl for prawns—50mm; or for a net used to trawl for scallops—90mm; and are each at least 1,470mm wide; and do not overlap by more than 380mm along the leading edge of the panels, when each panel is fully stretched; and are sewn together only along the leading edges of the panels; and are attached to the net in front of the leading edge of the escape hole. The trailing edge of a flap must not extend more than 610mm behind the trailing edge of the grid. sch 2 s 118 sub 2020 SL No. 236 s 159 (sch.2-sec.118-ssec.1) The escape hole must be covered by a rectangular flap attached to the outside of the net.
