### 64 Duties of occupier of land
> > (1) *\[Section 64 Subsection (1) amended by No. 29 of 1995, s. 49 \]*Where a fire is burning on any land during a fire permit period, the occupier of the land shall, immediately after becoming aware of the fire –

> > > > (a) take diligent steps to extinguish the fire or to prevent it from spreading; and
> > >
> > > > (b) report the fire to –

> > > > > > (i) the nearest brigade headquarters; or
> > > > >
> > > > > > (ii) a police officer; or
> > > > >
> > > > > > (iii) a member of the Fire Service.

> > (2) [Subsection (1)](#GS64@Gs1@EN) does not apply to –

> > > > (a) a fire lit under the authority of, and in accordance with the conditions of, a permit granted under [section 66](#GS66@EN) if and so long as that section is complied with in relation to that fire; or
