This determination shuts down four specific government bank accounts (called special accounts) that were created in 1997 under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997.

Special accounts are dedicated pools of public money set aside for particular purposes. This instrument abolishes:

CSL Limited Public Share Offer Account – related to the privatisation of the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories
Provision of Accounting Services to Daw Park Hospital, South Australia Account – for accounting services at a veterans' hospital
Australian Property Group Account – related to government property management
Political Exchange Program Account – for international political exchange activities

The determination takes effect on 30 June 2001. When a special account is abolished, any remaining money is usually returned to general government revenue or managed according to the Finance Minister's directions.
