Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a commencement proclamation—a formal instrument that switches on a specific part of existing legislation.

Specifically, it activates Part 10 of Schedule 1 of the Fair Work Amendment Act 2015 on 1 January 2016.

What this means:

Australian laws often pass Parliament but lie dormant until a later date is officially set.
This proclamation, signed by the Governor-General on 10 December 2015, acts as the 'on switch' for that particular section.
Once 1 January 2016 arrived, the rules in Part 10 of Schedule 1 became legally enforceable for employers, employees, and unions covered by the Fair Work Act.

This is a purely procedural step—it doesn't create new rules itself, but tells the community when specific workplace law amendments take effect.
