57 Conduct of proceeding by commissioner
(1) Subject to section 56 (1), the commissioner may, without consulting
or seeking the consent of the consumer, conduct a proceeding under
section 55 (2) in the name of the consumer and in the way the
commissioner considers appropriate.
(2) For the purpose of conducting a proceeding under section 55 (2),
the commissioner has the same rights as the consumer would have
had in the conduct of the proceeding, including the right—
(a) to sign documents in connection with the proceeding on behalf
of the consumer; and
(b) to settle an action or part of an action; and
(c) to give an undertaking in relation to costs.
