Division 1—Preliminary
1 Simplified outline of this Schedule
Calculation of Adjusted Contribution to Net Abatement (ASeq,adj,y)
The adjusted contribution to the net abatement amount for the project area from sequestration of carbon in living biomass or dead organic matter, or both, for calendar year y of the reporting period, ASeq,adj,y is calculated using SavCAM or in accordance with this Schedule. The following provides an explanation of how this is calculated.
Contribution from Sequestration (ASeq)
For the first calendar year, ASeq is equal to half of the difference between the carbon stock at the end of the calendar year and the mean carbon stock during the baseline period, plus the abatement released from the sequestration bank (R).
For each subsequent years, ASeq equals half of the change in carbon stock (carbon stock at the end of the current calendar year minus carbon stock at the end of the previous calendar year), plus the amount of abatement released from the sequestration bank (R).
Adjusted Contribution (ASeq,adj)
The adjusted contribution to the net abatement amount, ASeq,adj, is calculated by decreasing ASeq by any negative abatement that was carried over from the previous calendar year. The amount calculated is further decreased by the sequestration buffer. The sequestration buffer is an amount that is applied in lieu of the risk of reversal buffer number and the permanence period discount number that ordinarily apply when the unit entitlement for a sequestration offsets project is calculated under section 16 of the Act. For projects covered by this instrument, these numbers are equal to zero as a result of the CFI Rules. (The contribution to the net abatement amount from emissions avoidance is not adjusted.)
Changes to some values will arise if documents that are referred to as in force from time to time are modified, if the vegetation fuel type map is revised, or if project areas are subdivided.
Contribution to the sequestration bank
For the first calendar year, half of the difference between the carbon stock at the end of the calendar year and the mean carbon stock during the baseline period is deposited into the sequestration bank.
For subsequent years, the sequestration bank is calculated as the previous year’s sequestration bank plus half of the change in carbon stock (the difference between the current carbon stock and the previous carbon stock) minus the amount of abatement released in the previous year.
Calculation of abatement released from the sequestration bank
Abatement will be released from the sequestration bank for a calendar year as the total sequestration bank divided by the remaining years in the crediting period (crediting period length minus elapsed years).
