This Act has been repealed and is no longer in force. It is retained for historical reference.
What this does: This determination sets the catch limit (called the "total allowable catch") for tropical rock lobsters (known as "Kaiar" in the Torres Strait) for the 2024–2025 fishing season.
The catch limit: The determination sets the limit at 464,400 kilograms (unprocessed weight) for the season running from 1 December 2024 to 30 September 2025.
How it works: The instrument technically performs this in two steps: first setting the base limit at 200,000 kg, then immediately increasing it to 464,400 kg under a provision of the Management Plan that allows for such adjustments (likely to account for quota transfers or unused catch from previous seasons).
Who it affects: Commercial fishers operating in the Torres Strait Tropical Rock Lobster fishery.
When it expires: The determination automatically expires the day after the fishing season ends (30 September 2025).
