17 Protection requirements
(1) Spectrum licensees are requested to have regard to radiocommunications receivers used in a radio astronomy service operating on frequencies in the 1800 MHz band, covered by Australian footnote reference AUS87 in the spectrum plan. (2) Although these radio astronomy facilities operate on a fortuitous reception basis, the ACMA encourages the direct liaison of spectrum licensees with the operators of such radiocommunications receivers, particularly during the system planning phase of new systems, to minimise the potential interference impact on these receivers. Spectrum licensees planning new fixed transmitters that are required to be included in the Register are requested to follow the notification arrangements in RALI MS 31.
