Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This determination sets the exact weight of tuna that each fishing permit allows fishers to catch during the 2017-2018 season.

What it does It fixes the "actual live weight value" of a statutory fishing right (a type of fishing permit) at 1.15787216 kilograms for the Southern Bluefin Tuna Fishery season running from 1 December 2017 to 30 November 2018.

Who it affects Commercial fishers who hold statutory fishing rights in the Southern Bluefin Tuna Fishery.

Why it matters This number acts as a conversion rate. If a fisher owns 100 statutory fishing rights, they multiply that by 1.15787216 kg to calculate their total allowable catch for the season. This helps ensure Australia's total catch stays within strict international conservation limits for this threatened species.

How long it lasts The determination applies only to this specific 12-month season and automatically expires on 1 December 2018 unless revoked earlier.
