Commonwealth legislation
This Act has been repealed and is no longer in force. It is retained for historical reference.
This determination sets the amount of federal school funding paid to states and territories that did not sign up to the National Education Reform Agreement (the "non-participating" states) for the year 2014.
What it does:
Sets the total funding pool: Nearly $3 billion ($2,958,366,434) to be distributed among five jurisdictions.
Splits the money: The funds are divided as follows:
Adjusts for inflation: The base funding amount is indexed (increased to account for rising costs) using a formula set out in the legislation.
Why it matters: During the Gonski school funding reforms, some states refused to join the new funding model. This instrument ensures those states still receive their federal school funding, calculated under the previous rules rather than the new agreement.
