Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: This law sets the one-off cash payment amounts for Australians affected by major disasters happening overseas (outside Australia).

How much people get:

$1,000 for each adult
$400 for each child

Who it affects: Australian citizens or residents who are seriously affected by major disasters abroad—such as earthquakes, tsunamis, or terrorist attacks in other countries—and who qualify for the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (a special one-off assistance payment).

Why it matters: When major crises strike overseas, the Australian Government can extend financial help to affected Australians. This document fixes the exact dollar amounts for those international payments, distinguishing them from payments made for disasters occurring within Australia.
