Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

Australia is imposing stricter domestic rules on whales, dolphins and porpoises by treating species listed under CITES Appendix II as if they were Appendix I, effectively barring commercial international trade. This affects anyone importing or exporting cetaceans or their parts — including researchers, museums and wildlife traders — and closes commercial trade loopholes to bolster conservation.
