Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This mandatory directive requires owners of specified Piper PA-32-260 Cherokee Six aircraft (serials listed in Piper Service Bulletin No. 240) to inspect and, if needed, repair or replace aileron balance weights, stabilator and rudder balance assemblies per the manufacturer’s bulletin. It responds to internal corrosion and possible loosening that can degrade control. Owners must also remove wing tips for visual checks of balance weight arms. Compliance: bulletin inspection within 100 flight hours after 31 Aug 1980, then every 2 years; visual inspection within 200 flight hours, then every 200 hours.
