Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Order brings five specific citrus fruits under Australia’s export regulations for trade with the United States.

What it does From 1 February 2003, this legislation declared mandarins, tangelos, grapefruit, lemons and limes as "regulated horticultural products" specifically for export to the USA. It also designated the United States of America as a "regulated horticultural market" for these fruits.

Why it matters Under the Horticulture Marketing and Research and Development Services Act 2000, declaring products and markets as "regulated" typically means:

Exporters must pay levies (mandatory fees) to fund industry marketing and research programs
Specific quality controls or export documentation requirements may apply
Industry bodies can coordinate marketing activities for these products in the US market

Who it affects

Citrus growers and exporters shipping these five fruits to the United States
Industry bodies responsible for collecting marketing and R&D levies
