Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

These Regulations treat any State for which the UN Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances is in force as an “extradition country” under the Extradition Act 1988, and make the Act apply to those countries subject to that Convention. They affect people sought for drug‑trafficking offences, Australian decision‑makers and law enforcement by tying extradition eligibility to treaty status, requiring officials to check treaty entry‑into‑force (reg 5, note) while leaving procedural detail to the Extradition Act (reg 6).
