Export Market Development Grants (Iran Sanctions) Declaration 2008

This Act has been repealed and is no longer in force. It is retained for historical reference.

This declaration prevents Australian businesses from claiming Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) for promotional activities in Iran.

Normally, the EMDG scheme provides rebates to Australian businesses for marketing their products overseas (such as at trade shows, through advertising, or via market research). However, when a country is declared subject to trade sanctions under this scheme, businesses cannot receive these grants for activities conducted in that country.

By declaring Iran as a country subject to trade sanctions, this instrument removes it from the list of eligible destinations for EMDG funding. This affects Australian exporters who might otherwise seek government support to promote their goods and services in the Iranian market.
