Schedule 4 Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve

 

  This reserve is the Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve.

Note   Section 6 states the purposes of the reserve, section 7 states the depth of any land that may be included in the reserve and section 8 states the depth of the seabed included in the reserve.

  The Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve is assigned to IUCN category II (national park).

Note   Regulation 10.03H of the regulations lists each IUCN category and Schedule 8 to the regulations sets out the Australian IUCN reserve management principles for each IUCN category.

  The Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve consists of an area in the Coral Sea bounded by the line commencing at the point described in item 1 of the following table and running progressively as described in the table.

| 1 | The point of latitude 24° 30′ 00″ S, longitude 154° 00′ 00″ E | | 2 | East along the parallel of latitude 24° 30′ 00″ S to its intersection by the line described by article 1 of the Maritime boundary (French Republic) Agreement | | 3 | Generally north-westerly and north-easterly along that line to the southernmost point on the line described by article 1 of the Maritime boundary (Solomon Islands) Agreement | | 4 | Generally north-westerly along that line to its intersection by the outer limit of the exclusive economic zone | | 5 | Generally north-westerly along that outer limit to its intersection by the Fisheries Jurisdiction Line | | 6 | Generally westerly and north-westerly along that line to its intersection by the outer limit of the Protected Zone | | 7 | South, generally south-westerly, and west along that outer limit to its intersection by the meridian of longitude 144° 00′ 00″ E | | 8 | South along that meridian to its intersection by the outer limit of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park | | 9 | Easterly, southerly and generally south-easterly along that outer limit to the point of commencement |

Note   AGD66 applies to the coordinates described in items 1 and 2 of this table.

1.4 Zones for reserve

 (1) The Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve is divided into the following zones:

 (a) the multiple use zones described in clauses 1.5, 1.13 and 1.17 of this Schedule;

 (b) the marine national park zones described in clauses 1.6, 1.8 and 1.12 of this Schedule;

 (c) the habitat protection zone (Coral Sea) described in clause 1.7 of this Schedule;

 (d) the habitat protection zone (Seamount) described in clause 1.14 of this Schedule;

 (e) the conservation park zones described in clauses 1.9, 1.10, 1.11 and 1.15 of this Schedule;

 (f) the general use zone described in clause 1.16 of this Schedule.
