Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

The Minister, using s194D of the EPBC Act, directs that nominations for "Marine and freshwater species" receive priority in assessments for the period beginning 1 October 2022; the instrument takes effect the day after registration.

It alters only the order of processing—shifting administrative attention and likely speeding assessments for marine/freshwater nominations while delaying others—without changing listing criteria, substantive protections, or creating new funding or legal duties.
