What this document does

This is a formal proclamation (an official announcement) by the Governor-General that switches on the Enhancing Online Safety for Children Act 2015.

Key details

What it activates: Sections 3 to 108 of the Act (essentially the main body of the law)
When it takes effect: 1 July 2015
What it means: Before this date, those sections were not legally enforceable. After this date, they became active law.

Why this matters

Laws passed by Parliament often don't start immediately. This document is the legal mechanism that sets the 'go-live' date for Australia's online safety framework for children, allowing the eSafety Commissioner and related powers to begin operating.
