sec.272 Tests before registration or operation of system
The owner of a cathodic protection system that is a registrable system must perform tests in accordance with this section within 90 days, or a longer period the regulator allows, before applying for registration of the system. Maximum penalty—40 penalty units. The owner of a cathodic protection system that is not a registrable system must perform tests in accordance with this section within 90 days before starting to operate the system, other than for the tests. Maximum penalty—40 penalty units. The tests are— interference tests on all foreign structures for the system; and if the system has an anode immersed in water or a marine environment—tests to ensure the potential difference between any 2 accessible points spaced 1m apart in the water or marine environment are not more than 3V when the system is energised. The tests must be based on the maximum value of the current at which the cathodic protection system will operate at all times, other than during short-term testing of the system in which currents of greater values are permitted. The owner of the cathodic protection system must make all the arrangements for the tests, provide all the facilities and equipment for the tests and bear all the costs associated with the tests. Without limiting subsection (5) , for the performance of an interference test mentioned in subsection (3) (a) , the owner of the cathodic protection system must— arrange with all foreign structure owners a mutually acceptable time for performing the test; and allow the foreign structure owners to observe the performance of the test. (sec.272-ssec.1) The owner of a cathodic protection system that is a registrable system must perform tests in accordance with this section within 90 days, or a longer period the regulator allows, before applying for registration of the system. Maximum penalty—40 penalty units. (sec.272-ssec.2) The owner of a cathodic protection system that is not a registrable system must perform tests in accordance with this section within 90 days before starting to operate the system, other than for the tests. Maximum penalty—40 penalty units. (sec.272-ssec.3) The tests are— interference tests on all foreign structures for the system; and if the system has an anode immersed in water or a marine environment—tests to ensure the potential difference between any 2 accessible points spaced 1m apart in the water or marine environment are not more than 3V when the system is energised. (sec.272-ssec.4) The tests must be based on the maximum value of the current at which the cathodic protection system will operate at all times, other than during short-term testing of the system in which currents of greater values are permitted. (sec.272-ssec.5) The owner of the cathodic protection system must make all the arrangements for the tests, provide all the facilities and equipment for the tests and bear all the costs associated with the tests. (sec.272-ssec.6) Without limiting subsection (5) , for the performance of an interference test mentioned in subsection (3) (a) , the owner of the cathodic protection system must— arrange with all foreign structure owners a mutually acceptable time for performing the test; and allow the foreign structure owners to observe the performance of the test.
