Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a commencement proclamation—a formal legal instrument that acts as a 'start button' for specific parts of a law already passed by Parliament.

What it does:

Fixes 23 July 2010 as the date when Schedules 1 and 2 of the Electoral and Referendum Amendment (How-to-Vote Cards and Other Measures) Act 2010 become legally active (commence).

Who it involves:

Made by Marie Bashir, Administrator of the Government, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council.

Why it matters: Without this proclamation, the new rules about how-to-vote cards and other electoral measures would remain dormant (passed by Parliament but not yet in effect). This document triggers those changes, ensuring they apply to elections and referendums held after 23 July 2010.
