47 Political parties with certain names not to be registered The Commission must refuse an application for the registration of a political party if, in the opinion of the Commission, the name of the political party that the party wishes to use for the purposes of this Act— (a) comprises more than 6 words; or (b) is obscene; or (c) is not a proper abbreviation of the name of the political party; or (d) is the name of another registered political party; or (e) so nearly resembles the name of another registered political party that it is likely to be confused with, or mistaken for, that name; or (f) comprises the words "Independent Party" or comprises or contains the word "Independent" and— (i) the name of a registered political party; or (ii) matter that so nearly resembles the name of a registered political party that the matter is likely to be confused with, or mistaken for, that name.
