Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This law creates a fee (called a "charge") that must be paid when eggs are inspected for export from Australia.

Who pays: The person or organisation that submits the export paperwork (known as an "export notice") for the eggs. This includes private companies, individuals, or even State governments and their agencies.

How much: The exact fee is set by government regulations, but this law sets absolute maximums:

Shell eggs: No more than $22 per 1,000 dozen
Processed eggs (such as liquid or powdered eggs): No more than $16 per tonne

Key features:

The government can exempt certain types of eggs from the fee through regulations
This Act works as a pair with the Eggs (Export Inspection Charge) Collection Act 1982, which handles how the money is actually collected and administered
The fee only applies to eggs specifically inspected for export purposes
