Disability Discrimination Amendment (Education Standards) Act 2005 - Proclamation

This document is a commencement proclamation—a formal legal instrument that activates part of a law. Specifically, it sets 10 August 2005 as the date when Schedule 1 of the Disability Discrimination Amendment (Education Standards) Act 2005 comes into force.

What this means:

Before this date, the changes in Schedule 1 had no legal effect
After this date, the education standards for disability discrimination became legally binding
This is a procedural step required under the legislation itself (specifically, subsection 2(1), item 2)

Who was involved:

Governor-General (Philip Jeffery): Signed the proclamation
Attorney-General (Philip Ruddock): Authorised the action
Federal Executive Council: Provided formal advice

This document doesn't create the rights or standards itself—it simply switches them on.
