Plain English Summary
3/10 complexity
This instrument formally cancels unused appropriations from past federal budgets, reducing legal spending authority to match actual outlays. It affects multiple agencies — courts, law enforcement, ATO, defence procurement, and several departments and government-owned bodies — by returning unspent departmental, capital, and carried-over funds. Approved at ministers’ request and by the Finance Minister, it reconciles budget totals across financial years and releases funds back into the consolidated account.
Zoe can write the in-depth analysis on top of the summary above: how it works, who it affects and what each part actually does.
