This Act has been repealed and is no longer in force. It is retained for historical reference.
This document sets the fishing quotas (catch limits) for the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Fishery for the 2009/2010 season.
What it does:
Sets the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for target species that can be legally caught:
Sets catch limits for bycatch species (fish caught accidentally while targeting other species):
Who it affects: Anyone holding a fishing concession (license) for this fishery, or anyone acting on their behalf.
Why it matters: These limits prevent overfishing and ensure sustainable harvest of fish stocks in Australia's sub-Antarctic waters. Once these limits are reached, fishing for those species must stop.
