Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a formal proclamation that switches on (commences) specific parts of the Defence Trade Controls Act 2012.

What it does It sets 6 June 2013 as the date when two groups of sections become legally active:

Sections 3 to 9 — typically covering definitions and preliminary provisions
Sections 26 to 57 — typically covering the main operational rules for controlling defence exports

Why this matters When Parliament passes an Act, the law often includes a "waiting period" before it takes effect. This document is the official "go button" that tells businesses, regulators, and courts that these specific rules are now live and enforceable.

Who is affected Any person or business dealing with defence goods, military technology, or related services that fall under the Defence Trade Controls Act 2012. From 6 June 2013 onwards, they became legally bound by the provisions commenced by this proclamation.
