Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does: This instrument abolishes (repeals) a series of outdated Defence Force (Furlough) Regulations made between 1979 and 1981.

Who it affects: Australian Defence Force personnel previously covered by these furlough (leave) rules.

Why it matters: This clears away the old furlough system to make way for a new long service leave framework. The repeal only kicks in when Determination 2701 (Long Service Leave) is made under the Defence Act 1903, ensuring Defence members transition smoothly from the old furlough entitlements to the new leave arrangements without a gap.
