Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This amendment creates a higher duties allowance for staff working in Australia’s dairy export industry.

What it does:

Higher duties: If an officer temporarily performs the work of a higher-paid position for at least one month continuously, they receive extra pay.
Special duties: Officers assigned unusual or additional tasks may also qualify for an allowance.
Who decides the amount: The Minister for Commerce determines the payment, but only after the Dairy Produce Export Control Board makes a recommendation.

The catch: There is a 12-month rule. If an officer stops performing the higher-paid work and then has to do it again for less than a month within the next year, they do not get the allowance for that short second stint.

Who it affects: Officers employed under the Dairy Produce Export Control Act—public servants managing the export of Australian dairy products.
