Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does

This Declaration ends the dairy adjustment levy — a fee that dairy farmers previously had to pay to an industry services body (the organisation that represents and supports dairy farmers).

Specifically, it stops two sections of the Dairy Produce Act 1986 from applying to any money received by the government after 15 May 2009. This effectively switches off the legal obligation to pay this levy from that date onwards.

Who it affects

Dairy farmers: They no longer have to pay this specific levy on their production after the cut-off date.
Industry services body: The organisation (Dairy Australia) stops receiving these particular funds from the Commonwealth after 15 May 2009.

Why it matters

This is a clean-up instrument that formally terminates a specific industry charge, ensuring no further payments are required or collected under this particular scheme after May 2009.
