Customs Tariff (Safeguard Goods) Notice (No. 1) 20081

I, TONY BURKE, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, make this Notice under subsection 16A (1) of the Customs Tariff Act 1995.

1 Name of Notice

This Notice is the Customs Tariff (Safeguard Goods) Notice (No. 1) 2008.

2 Commencement

This Notice commences on the day after it is registered.

3 Definitions

Act means the Customs Tariff Act 1995.

safeguard goods has the meaning given in subsection 16A (7) of the Act.

4 Specified safeguard goods

This Notice specifies safeguard goods that:

(a) are classified under subheading 2008.20.00 in Schedule 3 to the Act; and

(b) are canned goods.

Note Subheading 2008.20.00 is the subheading for pineapples.

5 Quantity of safeguard goods

The quantity of the specified safeguard goods imported into Australia during the 2008 calendar year exceeds the quantity applicable for that year.

Note Column 3 of item 2 of the table in subsection 16A (1) of the Act sets out the quantity of pineapples that may be imported before the Minister may make a notice.
