Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act retroactively validates reduced customs duties charged on Canadian imports under the 1942 Canadian preference proposals, declaring those collections legally imposed whether taken before or after the Act. It protects the Crown from refund claims and shields importers who paid the lower rates, preserving revenue and legal certainty after an administrative tariff change preceded formal parliamentary approval.
