Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This regulation removes (repeals) the Customs (Narcotic Substances) Regulations from Australian law.

What this does:

Cancels the old customs rules that specifically dealt with narcotic substances
Removes those regulations from the statute books entirely
This is typically done when the rules are outdated, have been replaced by newer laws (such as updated drug control or customs legislation), or are no longer needed

Who it affects:

Businesses and individuals previously required to comply with those specific narcotic substance regulations when importing or exporting
Customs officials who administered those particular rules

Why it matters: This is legislative "housekeeping." It simplifies the law by eliminating obsolete regulations. However, this does not mean narcotics are unregulated—other laws (like the Customs Act 1901 itself, the Criminal Code, or newer regulations) continue to control these substances. This just removes one specific, older set of rules.
