Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This by-law creates a tariff concession (reduced import duty) for specific fabrics used to manufacture medical supplies.

What it covers:

Fabrics classified under tariff headings 5407 (synthetic filament fabrics) and 5408 (artificial filament fabrics)
The concession only applies if the fabric is used to make surgical plasters or adhesive plasters (medical bandages and tapes)

What's excluded:

Elastomeric fabrics (stretchy/elastic fabrics) weighing 510 grams per square metre or less
Weight measurements may vary by plus or minus 1% when tested against Australian Standard AS 2001.2.13

Why it matters: Medical supply manufacturers can import these specific fabrics at lower duty rates, reducing costs for producing plasters and adhesive bandages.
